Why are some of my CD-ROMs gold colored and others are silver?

Are cross reference directories available in electronic versions?

Yes. Most cross-reference directories are available on CD-ROM. With the CD-ROM version, the information may be searched by either name, address or telephone number. Once a target listing has been located, it may be printed on mailing labels, telemarketing lists or downloaded to an ASCII file.

Are cross reference CD-ROMs designed for high volume mass marketing?

No. Direct marketing campaigns that require more than several thousand prospect listings in a week are normally better served by other information products. The cross-reference directory CD-ROMs are designed for highly selective, lower volume direct marketing campaigns.

Why are some of my CD-ROMs gold colored and others are silver?

In general, silver colored CD-ROMs have been mass produced on a commercial disc replication machine. The silver coloring is an aluminum reflective layer. The gold colored CD-ROMs are normally produced on CD-R systems designed for producing customized CD-ROMs. The gold coloring is a gold reflective layer.

The gold colored CD-ROMs tend to be more sensitive than the silver colored CD-ROMs. A CD-ROM drive that is slightly out of calibration may be able to read a silver CD-ROM but report an error when trying to read a gold CD-ROM.
