Help Desk Tech Lead
8/1990 - 3/1995
IBM
|
|
|
I was the Technical Lead in charge of 2nd, 3rd and weekend
shifts at IBM End User Support in Tampa, Florida. IBM contracts with companies to provide
personal computer help desk assistance on all shrink wrapped software for
DOS, Windows, OS/2 and Macintosh platforms, custom software unique to
some clients and hardware. Customers are assisted via telephone
calls to IBM End User Support where they are connected to an End User
Support Representative who assists in resolving any problem they may be
experiencing. In this position, I was responsible for ensuring that
calls were answered in a timely and accurate manner; resolving customer
issues; assisting End User Support Representatives with difficult questions;
and answering incoming calls along with the Support Representatives.
Prior to being assigned the duties of Technical Lead, I was
an End User Support Specialist. As a Support Representative for
IBM, I was responsible for answering incoming calls and resolving
personal computer technical issues for customers. Due to the nature
of the calls and working 2nd shift the majority of the time, I became
knowledgeable in a myriad of personal computer software and hardware
products, including a multitude of various hardware components operating
in Windows, DOS, Macintosh and OS/2 environments. Issues resolved
included: printing problems, specific software how-to issues,
communication and network issues, file transfer and conversions, error
resolution and document recovery, memory configuration, product
installation, and hardware configuration. I also performed on-site
training for one of IBM's larger clients.

Word Processing
Supervisor

Time Customer Service

In this position I supervised a department of 15 word

responsible for creating macros in WordPerfect to expedite the operators'
input/output. Additionally, I was instrumental in recommending and
assisting in the implementation of a Macintosh Apple network utilizing
Word for the Mac and was assigned the duties of system administrator for
the network. Due to the fact that there was no on-site support
person at this location, I was often called upon to resolve PC problems
of other users in the building. I was also repsonsible
for creating a complex worksheet in Lotus 1-2-3 which was utilized to estimate time requirements
necessary to process the influx of mail for American Family
Publishers.
